Benefits of Dental Implants

cosmetic-dentistry-natural-looking-fillers

Natural & Comfortable

The high quality titanium in our dental implants fuse with your jawbone and serve as roots of missing teeth. All our patients report that dental implants placed at our clinic feel and function like their natural teeth. Our dental implants can last for a lifetime if taken care of properly.
Preserve a deteriorating jawline

Preserves Jaw Bone

Up to 25% of the jaw bone is lost after tooth loss or extraction. Dental implants simulate and preserve the bone, preventing its reabsorption and deterioration. This preserves the structure and appearance of your jaw bone and provides a more youthful appearance throughout your life.

Better Oral Health

Adjacent teeth do not need to be reduced or altered like in other conventional dental procedures like dental crowns and bridges. Dental implants are quick and painless and are completely resistant to decay, while other methods are much more likely to cause tooth decay and other issues.
Cosmetic denture Implants

Fracture-resistant

Dental implants are even stronger than natural teeth! Titanium dental implants are highly resilient and corrosion-resistant. They have a long-term success rate and can continue remaining in great shape for a lifetime if placed correctly and taken care of according to our instructions.

Painless Procedure

Implants are a well-established treatment for missing teeth. Implant dentistry is performed under local anaesthesia by our certified periodontist. Like a tooth extraction, you feel no pain, but may experience mild discomfort during the week after surgery.

Easy to Care for

Unlike dentures, which need to be removed and rinsed after eating and disinfected every night, dental implants only require brushing and flossing along with the rest of your teeth. Our hygienist will teach you how to take great care of your dental implants so they can last a lifetime.

Dental Implants Procedure

A dental implant serves as a root for a missing tooth and is made out of titanium. The replacement tooth is held in place with a metal frame or post. There is a multi-step procedure for getting a dental implant:

  • Your dentist, or an implant specialist, carries out the first assessment in which they observe the teeth, mouth, gums, and the area in need of the implant. The dentist may also need to order some bone imaging, like a 3-D x-ray, CT scan, or panoramic scan to look at the underlying structures and assess the bone quality. The dentist will schedule the implant placement procedure if the bone is found to be adequate.
  • Local anesthetics will be administered, along with sedatives if requested, to help you relax. The first stage usually involves extracting the damaged tooth or teeth. If the periodontist determines that the bone quality is poor, a bone graft may be required. Specifically, an alveolar bone graft, where donor or synthetic bone is placed to help the jaw bone heal and strengthen. Healing from an alveolar graft can take at least six months. If the bone quality is acceptable, the periodontist will drill into the bone and place both the implant and the abutment. The abutment is a connector that the replacement tooth will later attach to.
  • After the tissues around the implant have healed, your dentist will place the final component — the replacement tooth — onto the abutment.
  • Note: When bone quality is sufficient, tooth extraction and implant placement can sometimes be performed during the same appointment. This is known as “immediate implant placement.” In this case, the oral surgeon inserts the titanium post into the jaw bone, covers it with a healing cap, and sutures the gums to begin the healing process.

What is the healing time?

The healing time is typically between two to six months, which allows the implant to fuse completely with the jaw bone. However, depending on your individual oral condition, your dentist will recommend a customized treatment plan with a shorter or longer healing period.

How much do dental implants cost?

Dental implants at Dentist North York clinic start at $1,599. This price includes the surgical placement of the dental implant in your jawbone, and it does not include the abutment & dental implant crown. The price of the abutment and dental implant crown will depend on the size of the tooth, location of the tooth as well as other factors that will be determined during your complimentary dental implant consultation.

What are the risks associated with dental implants?

Dental implants have a very high success rate. In rare cases, complications can occur due to bleeding, infection or injury to adjacent muscles or the sinus cavity. If nerves are damaged, the patient may experience numbness or tingling in the teeth, gums, lip or chin. However, our dentist will do a complete examination to ensure that you are a great candidate for dental implants, so book your complimentary dental implant consultation today.

What if the implant does not bond to the bone?

If bone density and volume are lacking, your implant won’t integrate properly with your bone. Our dentist will consider your bone height, width and length to decrease the probability of implant failure. In the rare event that your implant does not fuse properly, we will remove it and allow the site to heal prior to placing another dental implant.
